As a
new
Director,
it
is
an
honor
to
address
these
words
to
you
on
behalf
of
USAK,
Turkey’s
leading
policy
studies
think
tank.
The
pace
at
which
the
world
is
changing
today
is
unprecedented.
Turkey
is
perhaps
one
of
the
most
rapidly
changing
countries
anywhere
on
our
planet.
We
are
a
newly
industrialized
society,
a
member
of
the
G20,
a
leading
member
of
international
organizations
playing
an
active
regional
role.
We
are
committed
to
the
principles
of
democracy,
the
peaceful
resolution
of
international
disputes,
the
avoidance
of
international
conflict,
and
the
creation
of a
more
prosperous
and
just
world
for
the
generations
with
follow
us.
To
understand
realistically
how
goals
like
these
can
be
achieved,
it
is
always
necessary
to
identify
the
choices
that
leaders
and
policy
makers
face
and
to
map
out
the
way
ahead
for
them.
That
has
been
the
role
of
research
institutes
and
think
tanks
over
the
last
half
century
across
the
globe.
They
have
helped
build
a
growing
international
understanding
on
policy.
Turkey
is
no
exception.
USAK
stands
at
the
forefront
a
lively
group
of
Turkish
think
tanks
at
work
today
to
give
our
policymakers,
and
also
the
general
public
and
opinion-formers
in
industry,
academia,
the
government
service,
and
the
media
the
insights
that
can
only
come
from
analytical
thinking
based
skilled
professional
research
on
specialist
areas.
We
are
strongly
conscious
of
our
heritage
in
Turkey
and
as
Turks
on
these
matters.
This
awareness
informs
our
research
but
it
also
helps
us
to
identify
our
goals.
We
at
USAK
understand
our
responsibility:
We
are
working
to
produce
specific
concepts
and
analysis
for
peace
and
development
for
Turkey
and
the
twenty-first
century
world
that
both
originate
in
our
national
values
and
are
appropriate
for
our
times.
We
know
that
no
country
and
no
society
can
afford
to
fall
behind
the
pace
of
global
developments
in a
century
like
ours.
We
must
always
strive
to
be
fully
abreast
of
changes
and
developments
taking
place
in
our
region
and
across
the
world
and
stand
ready
with
strategies
to
respond
them.
The
only
assurance
we
have
for
the
future
is
that
it
is
very
hard
to
foresee
what
it
will
be
like
a
decade
or
two
from
now.
We
do
know,
however,
that
Turkey,
as
an
increasingly
strong
regional
economy
and
one
rising
in
the
ranks
of
the
OECD
as
the
century
progresses,
will
be
called
on
to
play
a
steadily
more
central
role.
We
truly
believe
that
the
forty-two
highly
qualified
specialists
working
at
USAK
make
up
an
outstanding
team.
Our
work
is
focused
on
serving
the
needs
of
our
country
and
creating
a
better
world
order.
